PEP 541 Request: doodads #6689

@joseph-long

Description

@joseph-long

Project to be claimed

doodads: https://pypi.org/project/doodads

Your PyPI username

jdl: https://pypi.org/user/jdl

Reasons for the request

I would like to request this project name for my collection of signal-processing and astronomy doodads.

I believe this section of PEP 541 applies:

Invalid projects

A project published on the Package Index meeting ANY of the following is considered invalid and will be removed from the Index:

[...]

  • project is name squatting (package has no functionality or is empty);

[...]

Aside from an empty __init__.py and the required setup.py, there is nothing in the package's sole release from Dec 11, 2018.

Maintenance or replacement?

Replacement

Source code repositories URLs

The GitHub URL https://github.com/bp256r1/doodads in the setup.py 404s (both for the repo and the user/org).

My project lives here: https://github.com/joseph-long/doodads

Contact and additional research

On May 30, 2020, I sent the following email to podgeracer9000@gmail.com (the email in setup.py):

Hi there,

I was wondering if you had plans to use the name doodads which you have registered on PyPI: https://pypi.org/project/doodads/

If not, would you consider transferring it to me? I am 'jdl' on PyPI (https://pypi.org/user/jdl/). I've been collecting functionality I use in exoplanet research under https://github.com/joseph-long/doodads and it would be neat if I could publish it for others on PyPI.

Thanks!

Joseph Long

So far, I have not heard back.
