Considering Spark 2.0 is around the corner and a lot of methods from 1.0 and 1.2 were deprecated and will be removed, in ES-Hadoop 5.0 the support for pre Spark 1.3, in particular Spark SQL, will be dropped.

Unfortunately as Spark 2.0 will introduce breaking changes, it is likely we will still have to use two modules.
