Add FontStruction “Blown Out” #1528

76e1cdfe7d8d01196847cb925d7e68c2972a9633 For some reason, the "<" & ">" (GT & LT signs) were not correct. I updated them and added some preview images made with the updated font file. |
That is, I added the preview images to the Fonstruct development home page. |
Is this supposed to be an error?: https://github.com/FontStruct/google-fonts-contributions/tree/master/fontstructions/1509250 I get a 404 Page Not Found Error (cool wrong web address page, BTW). That is, it is not a URL that the public has access to because the archive isn't approved yet, or does this mean that the archive submitted never actually made it over to GitHub for consideration? The Fontstruct website links work, but not the GitHub URL, which apparently is supposed to be the archive, right? I mean, it doesn't make sense to make an SIL OFL freeware font archive not available to the public at GitHub, a public archive of software and code, right? Thanks for your response, in advance. |
@Domainer. That’s a problem at the FontStruct end. I'll look into it as soon as I can. |

It does make me think of kids toys, so I'd like to consider this :) |
Cool. I am hopeful and with a positive attitude, I quite look forward to seeing it in Google Fonts. |
Hi. Is there a next step? Or do I just have to be patient? Thank you. |
Thanks @Domainer! I'm sorry to say that you just have to be patient on this, we have some urgent projects that have taken all our attention and I am not able to process the backlog of font additions at the moment. |
This update reflects some spacing issues that I corrected. There were tiny updates to a few certain characters in minute detail simply for clarity (while I was in there fixing the spacing). I remember that I lowered the lower 9 single quote, but have been frustrated with Fontstruct lately (as I again tried to update this archive from that end and had all the changes written down as a part of that update submission, but again got a 500 server error). Plus, I just lost another font in there I had been working on for years because of UI wonkiness and editor font corruption. So, I am frustrated, but luckily this Blown Out font update has escaped harm. Thanks, Doug |
New version with better kerning (& 219 glyphs)... Thank you! -DP |
Blown Out is an abstract font that was inspired from Stop font, though this version doubles the negative space which becomes a part of the design.
This font was designed from an artist's perspective, using minimalism in design, shapes and form to communicate a rather unique character set.
The minimalism is further carried over in the small resources that this font file consumes in system memory as well as a web font (#webfont) download.
Although an abstract art font, even though the negative space makes the separate characters unrecognizable as letters, numerals or punctuation when displayed individually, this font manages to incorporate the negative space into the design in such a way that when the glyphs are used in words, names and sentences, the glyphs are easily recognizable and readable.
Though this font would likely see limited use, it still fulfills a need for art fonts on the web, in displays and also lends itself well to logotype, brand creation and identity development.
As an artist, I feel that an abstract font that incorporates the negative space offered in glyph formation is long overdue, and will be a great addition as a rather unique selection in Google Fonts.

I would be willing to entertain the development of additional characters if there was interest in my doing so.
