I wrote Home Assistant Google Drive Backup, which is probably the project you care about. If not, you should! Its a one man show back here. Sometimes I do other things too, but that's between me and the missus.

You can contribute any amount, the tiers are just there because like writing the little blurbs. Tiers don't get you any special benefit, except of course for the satisfaction of knowing that you're keeping this project's future secure. I write the code, you use the software, and sometimes you contribute money to keep the ship afloat. Lets not make this relationship anything more than what it is. Lets just see where things go between you and I. I'm not looking to get tied down in some kind of exclusive sponsorship. I NEED MY SPACE.

Clearly you want to contribute, but only in the least impactful way possible. You're still letting me reach into your bank account once a month, which gets my respect. But wow is it a tiny little bank account. Or is it? Hard to tell from what I can see. How about you just buy me a coffee instead? https://www.buymeacoffee.com/sabeechen Then you won't be confused next month when a charge for ONE DOLLAR shows up on your statement.

Now we're getting somewhere. With this kind of cash, I could almost buy a burrito at Chipotle. When my wife laughs at me for spending so much time writing code for strangers on the internet, now I can just throw $5 at her and walk away. Argument WON. Thanks to YOU. Winning is what matters in a relationship. Once a month I'm going to light some incense, write your name in my gratitude journal and think about how much I value OUR relationship. Which is $5. Win.

Oh now that is the GOOD STUFF. $10 will buy me about 3 days worth of beans. "Days of beans equivalent" is the metric I use personally to evaluate all meaningful financial decisions. Another good (but not quite as good) metric is the number of HA Backup users supported per month. $10/month covers the server costs for ~15k users/month. How its it possible for a measly $10/month to impact the lives of that many thousands of people? Its because I run a tight ship and the internet is amazing. Can you're $10/month Netflix subscription provide a reliable backup solution for FIFTEEEN THOUSAND PEOPLE? No, it only fills your eyeballs with all the scripts that even Fox wasn't willing to greenlight for direct-to-video. Make the right choice.

Wow are you sure? $50 is a lot. I mean I'm grateful and all but this is just an open source project that uploads backups to Google Drive. I mean, I did spend months writing it, and I'm probably the only dev on GitHub who actually attempts to help newbies who ask the same damn questions over and over and over. And I guess I do still spend a lot of time keeping things updated as HA finds creative ways to break its internal APIs.
Alright, you convinced me. This project is totally worth your $50/month. And now that I've given it a little thought, $50 is really the bare minimum. Anyone considering giving less is just trying to rationalize how much they drain from the commons.
