Application to become an approved third party manufacturer as per HIP19. All questions must be answered, any missing information will result in delays.

Summary

Our company is dedicated to exploring the practical applications of blockchain. With the rapid development of the Internet of Things, the Helium team’s ingenious idea of combining digital currency, blockchain and IoT construction will push the Helium Network to be the forefront of the next generation of IoT. In our opinion, Helium blockchain is the best one that meets the real needs of our society. We want to be an engineer of Helium Network and engage in manufacturing a secure indoor Helium Hotspots Miner.

RedRock Technology LLC, established in Denver, Colorado in 2017, is an all-in-one IoT solutions company, our manufacturing factory is located in Chengdu, China. We conduct internal R&D, production, and QA, which provides warranty for quality assurance. Our products cover LoRaWAN gateways and modules, pet trackers, indoor tracking tag and more. In the past few years, we established strong relationships with business partners in China with a complete supply chain, strong financial resources and mass production capabilities.

    As loyal fans of cryptocurrency, we are always interested in blockchain projects and have a keen awareness of the hardware encryption market. We were excited when we heard about a new LoRaWAN network using blockchain technology, and Helium came to our attention. We are eager to be one of builders of the Helium Network and look forward to contributing to the growth of the next generation of the global IoT market.

    RedRock HNT Miner is a high-performing, ready-to-use LoRaWAN indoor gateway connected to the Helium LongFi Network. It is based on Raspberry Pi 4 and embedded with M302 module LoRaWAN concentrator.

    We will sell the first generation product at around $499.

    We have shipping experience, such as QRdish Bluetooth printer shipped from China to USA in 2019. We have built up strong business connections with our partner AGI Link Cargo in China.

Which countries do you plan to ship to and get regulatory certifications for? (required)

North America, Europe and China, we plan to get CE and FCC ASAP. Also we will get IC(Canada), UKCA(UK) and RCM(Australia and New Zealand) later.

Customer Support (required)

  • How will your customers be able to contact you for support for your products?
    Our customer will be able to reach us by phone, website, email, Telegram or WhatsApp, and discord.
  • For how long?
    We provide customers with one-year product warranty for quality assurance. If a quality defect occurs within a year, we will offer a new product for free.
  • How are you planning to handle repairs and replacements?
    After one-year warranty, all defective devices will be returned to our warehouses located in Denver, Colorado for USA and Canada customers, or in Vienna, Austria for European customers. If there are only small equipment problems, our local engineer will fix them right away and mail back to our customers, Other defective devices will be sent back to our factory in Chengdu, China for testing and repair. The repair and shipping costs will be supported by the customers.

Hardware Security Element (required)

  • The community is concerned about devices that can be easily hacked, specifically by copying their swarm_key files. Applications should include plan for how the devices will be secured. The approved security element is an ECC608. If you would like to use an alternative security element your HIP19 will require additional review, please email Dewi (christina@dewi.org).

The product is developed based on Semtech® SX1302 & SX1250, embedded with the ECC608 crypto chip to increase the security of swarm-key.

  • What are your plans for software setup and configuration for the devices? This would includes remote updates and the ability for hosts to change wifi settings, via Helium's official app or otherwise.
    We will use our own App + BLE to support configuration
  • Which security implementation (ECC608, TPM, TrustZone, other) are you using?
    We use ATECC608A.
  • Which LoRa chipset are you planning to use in your gateway? (i.e. SX1302, SX1303, etc, only list one) We recommend you don't use the SX1301 in new designs.

  • If you have not built gateways before, are you using a third party manufacturer? This is the single largest risk with most hardware ventures. If possible please provide information about your manufacturing partners and supply chain.
    We do not need third-party manufacturers. We have our own manufacturing factory in Chengdu, China. Therefore, we have no third-party R&D or foundry risks.
  • Where are you sourcing your components from?

  • How many radio modules/ concentrators can you procure?

Proof of Identity

Per typical KYC/AML procedures, proof of identity for major shareholders (25%+ ownership) will be expected to be provided privately to representatives from Helium Inc or DeWi board members. This will be attested and publicly confirmed by those representatives. Contact details for this will be provided after your application is submitted on GitHub.
To be submitted privately to DeWi. as per HIP 19 guideline.

Budget & Capital (required)

  • How many hotspots are you planning to manufacture and sell within the first six months of sales?
    5500 pcs
  • How much money will be required up-front? How much money do you have on-hand, and how much do you have access to?
    $100,000 for hardware prototype and software development, QA, and certifications.We have $300,000 in USA and RMB2,210,000($349,000) in China for this project now. We will invest $500,000 more for the mass production.
  • What is your plan for additional financing if required? (This is the second biggest risk in new hardware ventures, getting almost over the line and then running out of cash.)
    We can obtain financial support through reliable investment partner if needed.

Risks & Challenges (required)

Please tell us about some of the challenges that would prevent these products from becoming a reality and how you might address them. The shortage of chips could be challenging in the current market, which affects the whole industry, but we have enough stock to produce the above quantity of products. Because of the Covid-19 pandemic and China’s strict epidemic prevention policy, there may be possible delays in transportation and maintenance of our products. Our partner, AGI Link Cargo, can provide us international logistics services, and will help us mitigate these problems.
