Excel currently provides for the addition of backgrounds to plot and chart areas. These pictures help emphasize the content, for example:

I'll consider it but realistically this probably won't get done for a long time. The internals of linking to image files can be tricky and error prone, this isn't a frequently requested features, and most of my spare cycles are being spent on the Rust version these days.
