Can I call prettier with a file containing a list of file names to process?

I want to run prettier on a very large Git repo, but only on files that are under Git control. I could run prettier $(git ls-files), but wondering if that will make the command line too long. Alternative would be using git ls-files | xargs prettier. Is there a preferred way to handle this?

current approach I use is git ls-files -z | grep -E --null-data '\.(json|yaml)$' | xargs -0 prettier
