As-designed. You need to copy the content to somewhere else to edit it.

horse manure. I have been able to run all of my small (I'm learning) scripts/programs and enter input just file until the last time I restarted the program. Now it will never let me -- "cannot edit in read only editor" tooltip pops up with each keystroke. This JUST started happening, out of the blue.

There are more posts like this popping up. Google it. Haven't seen any useful replies yet.

EDIT: Thanks, but I guess I'll just go back to Geany. Damn, was just REALLY starting to like VS.Code, too. :(

to the OP, just go to the user settings and add - "code-runner.runInTerminal": true

This will just run it from the terminal but at least you can see it from within vs code. :|

Really sucks, cause I much prefer the look of the "output" screen, and I was just running my programs a night or two ago with no problems whatsoever. Just started it up again tonight and this annoying tooltip showed up. Now Code is no better than Sublime, lol. Geany it is!..... :x

Same issue is still in version 1.25.0, MacOSX. Cannot edit in read-only editor.
If this cannot be changed, then VS Code is pretty worthless.
