Stats should be an API

Would allow stats to be shown externally / in dashboards, etc; would also allow the refactoring of the stats page that ought to happen (it’s kind of gnarly how it works now, with a janky kind of ajax, server-side views, etc. – made sense before Backbone et all became more popular, but could be better).
