Fix compatibility with Matplotlib 1.4 #212

Matplotlib 1.4 has a bug that means that some of the output images are lacking major ticks on the top axis - see matplotlib/matplotlib#3514 for details.

This is a reminder to implement a workaround for this. In the mean time I will force Travis to use 1.3.1

Fixed - Matplotlib 1.4.2 is out and fixes the problem
