Decided to leave feedback after attempting a translation from a japanese book into english. So far, I found these issues while using the translation app:

  1. I was unable to change ChatGPTs (OpenAI) prompt a few times (I had already changed it before). I tried to just delete to go back to the original, and then I made some more changes to the prompt, but it took a while to change the prompt.

  2. When using the "translate all"/"translate selected", sometimes it takes about 30s/1 minute to have a translation of a small paragraph. However, when doing a single translation, it gets much faster; but it also bugs, saying "Error: Unterminated string starting at: line 1 column 1 (char 0)". Even though there's an error, the message that appears through "review" seems to be complete and not buggy.

  3. When trying to output to EPUB, not only does the translated text fail to go (multiple parts weren't translated), but also it would keep the japanese style (right to left, top to bottom) instead of the english style (left to right, headers on the top left).

I decided to just keep reading through the "review", but I'm sad I can't use the arrow keys to go from top/bottom of the list.

For some reason Github decided to duplicate things...? I'm sorry for that.

No worries, We've just closed the incomplete issue you accidentally posted to focus on the real one.

Here are responses to your concern. Some of them need further information from you.

  1. We've just fixed the bug that pops up when the prompt gets reset to the default one.

  2. The reason translating multiple paragraphs takes longer is that each paragraph makes multiple attempts to retry failed requests, which consumes more time compared to translating a single paragraph. The primary issue lies in the occurrence of these failed requests. We need to investigate why these errors occur. Could you please show me the original text with which you encountered the error? Don't worry about the error information that appears in the review. It's just a notification and does not affect the translation unless you choose to save it.

  3. English and Japanese written vertically have different text directions. Right now, our translation follows the original text's formatting. This might not be the best for reading English text. If we change the translated text to the English text direction, we may also need to adjust the original text direction for a consistent look. Would you be comfortable with this change?

The issue of being unable to navigate with arrow keys has been resolved. You can download the latest version from the plugin's homepage at https://translator.bookfere.com by clicking the "Rolling Version" button.

Yay for the fixes! I was reading paragraph by paragraph by clicking, so being able to use the arrow keys makes me very happy. I wonder if I'll lose my current translations though... (I didn't! Yay!)

The error for [2] stopped when I unchecked the streaming option for ChatGPT. It was happening with all tests. It ended up showing in multiple translate selected as well. One of the tests/paragraphs was "眠れない夜".

As for [3], I believe so.

Thank you for the additional information.

We will resolve issue [3] in a future update. However, we're currently unable to replicate issue [2]. Could you please send us a copy of the problematic content to our email (bookfere@gmail.com) to assist us in identifying the bug?
