While, I like the simple interface of Celluloid, I tend not to use the app. Instead my preferred player is VLC. Since VLC on my laptop started crashing, I defaulted to Celluloid. After using for many days, I still miss the following features.

  • Ability to synchronise track such as audio, subtitles etc.
  • Ability to search subtitles based on file name (like VLC's vlsub plugin)

And, I believe they are one of the most used feature by VLC users. It would be nice to have such features. Although I like the simplicity of the interface, but they will be power users, who would want some more controls. I am not sure if adding such feature are in alignment with Celluloid project, but if there is such features, I would use Celluloid more than VLC becasue of how it looks and feels. Great job on getting interface done nicely.

By synchronise do you mean adding delays to audio/subtitle tracks? If so, that's already possible. Pressing Ctrl+/Ctrl+- will adjust audio delay, and pressing Z/Shift+Z will adjust subtitle delay.

Ability to search subtitles based on file name (like VLC's vlsub plugin)

There are a number of plugins for that. mpv-autosub is one example.

Ah, sorry. My bad. Thanks for your response...

Didn't know the feature exists. How can anyone make it better discover-able? Is it possible to list under more controls?

It would be great to make these features more discoverable for sure, although I'm not exactly sure how. Our controls already have lots of buttons, so I don't think adding more buttons there is a good solution.
