Error in TriggerSummaryProducerAOD

Dear experts,
we are encountering a problem in production for Herwig6 samples at the DIGI step with the error in [1]. This occurs in CMSSW_7_6_6_patch1. Could you please help us on this? I am happy to give more details.
Note that this error for a similar request does not happen in CMSSW_9_4_0_patch1.

This error is expected if 2015 DIGI-RECO is done with too new of a 71x GEN-SIM release. This was agreed to be "ok" by GEN years ago as not being needed. #19443

Can't we simply use CMSSW_7_1_32 or CMSSW_9_4_0_patch1 then? (adding @qliphy)

The issue is that this development went into 71x as a back port for gen in 2016, so its missing from the 2015 software. As its generally something not done it was proposed and agreed not to change 76x.
