Have thumbnail/banner separate? #79

Is there a way to separate the "banner" (shown on top of post) from the "thumbnail" (shown in the article list) in the front matter? I would like to have thumbnails, but no banners on some posts.

It has been over year since the request, and this one has not seen any "love" 😞
If there is a way, and maintainers do not have time - can you please provide directions how one may proceed, if they wanted to implement this feature ?
