Jackson is now in the com.fasterxml.jackson namespace; elasticsearch uses it.

That's true but one important aim of the Hadoop integration is to have no dependencies when running within Hadoop. This means relying on the Hadoop dependencies, not on ES, which in this case, means using Jackson 1.8.8, among other libraries.
