I linked your wonderfully insightful posts about Silent Hill 2 PC to a friend of mine and re-read this portion of your post just now:
IIRC there is only 1 'real' gameplay change from the consoles to the PC, related to the lack of analog sticks. I can't remember if we just hardcoded it into the stat table (which works out which ended etc.) or if might be possible to bring it back for game pads with analog sticks. Mind you not sure that was a good idea, the weird stats which you had no feedback on (like bumping maria etc.) wasn't imho the clearest thing, ironically a generation later and they would have made good achievement fodder :)
^ That statement is in regards to rowing the rowboat on harder difficulties. You would have to rotate both console joysticks together to make the boat move. I totally understand why that was taken out of the PC build for obvious (keyboard and mouse) reasons.
But this got me thinking: On the console versions, when you hold the "look" button (which, by default, is L2/LT) you can then use the right analog stick to look around with the camera while still moving James' body with the left analog stick.
For the PC build, this option was removed and you now have to fully stand still in order to look around (using the same inputs as what makes James move). I also understand why this was changed (due to the aforementioned keyboard + mouse thing).
But, to the best of your knowledge, could the original function for "look" mode--where by holding the "look" button you can use the right stick to look around while still moving James with the left stick--be re-activated? Is this something that can be re-enabled if the right address values were to be found? Or did your team have to fully re-write the way this works from the ground up for the PC build?
Lastly, I wanted to let you know that, with the newest release of "Silent Hill 2: Enhanced Edition," we've re-done the Konami intro screen and splash page and, for the splash page, gave Creature Labs the proper real estate on the image as you guys rightfully deserved. :)
