Unable to set cell value as Number

I am encountering an issue while inputting a numerical value into a cell using the command:
cell.value = 1234.

However, when I subsequently check the cell type in my Excel file, it is automatically being recognized as a string. This is not aligning with my expectations and seems to indicate a potential problem with the feature.
