Topics for weekly community call

Please suggest topics for our weekly community call! We recommend sorting by "Newest" to see the most recent weeks.

Anyone can suggest topics to discuss for a given week, or create a new post with things you'd like to discuss at some point.

Some types of topics:

• Discuss any open GitHub issues that you want input on
• High-level discussions about project (e.g., governance, roadmap, etc.)
• Working session to tackle issues
• Feedback or discussion sessions on use cases, scenarios, etc
• Hands-on activities/workshops (e.g., brainstorming sociotechnical abstraction/framing traps in specific domains)
• Research paper discussion and/or presentation of ongoing research
• Open Q&A with users

General meeting structure:

• Introductions (if needed)
• Updates, blockers, questions
• Whatever the planned meeting topic was for the day, if any

• Current collaboratively editable meeting notes
• Meeting notes from July 2020 - July 2021

• Maybe we can take some time to take stock of and discuss open PRs? (e.g., DOC Add versionadded and versionchanged to API reference (fairlearn.reductions._moments)  #983, ENH Add ranking metrics #974, ENH Add "adversarial debiasing" #973)
• We can continue discussing the learning objectives for educational resources (we left off at 4.6), but I know we've spent a few meetings discussing them lately, so I'm mindful of not taking too much time on our community calls, since it might not be of interest to everyone.

I don't think there's anything wrong with continuing on the learning objectives as long as we keep space for other topics. I do think that making progress there is quite important so that we can move forward 🙂

Gave tutorial at SciPy Latin America on Sunday 🎉 and found a user interested in exploring more for her use cases/helping with translation.

I don't have much experience with internationalization so I'm hardly one to give advice, but I thought I might as well share this.

I would love to pick up the second point here and go a bit broader: How do we want to talk about common fairness benchmarks in our documentation (incl. user guide etc.)? I've been thinking about this for a while, but this tweet thread reminded me of this again. He doesn't mention fairness there, but in many ways it's not that different. I personally feel like we should point out the obvious issues with chasing SOTA on common benchmarks. If you are interested I would recommend this paper as a start into thinking in that direction (not for you @hildeweerts, but others who might read this 🙂). This includes pointing out limitations and shortcomings of existing datasets to help people understand why they may not want to use them.

That said, I am not 100% sure I will make it in time for the Thursday call 🙁

Thursday mornings are about the most unplannable time for me the next 2 months 🙂 All bets are off... Perhaps I should start an issue on this at some point to capture all my thoughts.
