Hi. This is a fantastic app, I like it so much better than what I use on my phone, and I hope to be able to switch to Phosh or mobile Gnome in the future and use this great app there!

I would just like to ask you kindly to please update your screenshots here on GH and Flatpak to some without the Harry Potter books in them. Rowling has been spending all her time, and a lot of money, for many years now spreading hate and propping up right wing extremists.

If you don't know what this is about I would highly recommend watching this video or this video on the topic.

Everyone is allowed to enjoy any media they like, of course! This is not about that. But if anyone knows about this, which is fairly common knowledge by now, and they see your screenshots, they may take that as a message that for example trans people are not welcome here, which would unnecessarily hurt and push people away.

I think it would be really awesome if you made some new screenshots with only CC licensed or Public Domain books, like from LibriVox (this version of Moby Dick is incredibly good!) or the earlier works by Cory Doctorow, for example.

Again I want to thank you for your work on this great app, and for listening!

All the best!

Hi @forteller
Thanks for your very considerate issue and your appreciation. I'm very happy that you enjoy Cozy :)

The most important thing first: my intention definitely wasn't to send any kind of message like this to you or other people. I totally agree that this would be a very noninclusive and potentially hurtful message.

I know about the controversies you mentioned but to be honest I didn't think about them when taking the screenshots. I hope people can see it as just an example to showcase the functionality of Cozy.

Using more (or even only) public domain or CC licensed books for the screenshots is probably a good idea for even more than those reasons I think. But it'll probably take some time to create a good filled library with nice looking album artwork for the screenshots. So I'm happy for your suggestions.

Thank you for your kind repy, @geigi!

The problem with using books from Librivox is twofold: First off they don't have any official way to see which of their books are most popular, and seeing as they over a thousand books it's hard to go trough and find the best ones to use. Second, and more importantly, they mostly don't have very good looking "album art" for their books.

I did, however, find this artist making covers for LibriVox books that looks quite nice. Have a look at them and see what you think: https://archive.org/details/librovox

I've tried finding some CC licensed audiobooks trough the CC wiki, but it is pretty dead, the rest of the CC website, and a bit of searching. But I couldn't find much. This, I guess, but it's in french and have the same problem with ugly art: https://www.audiocite.net/

There is, as I mentioned, a few by Cory Doctorow, just be aware that he stopped using CC about 10 years ago, so take care which ones to use.

Thanks again! And sorry for not being of much help.

You'll have to decide if it's really worth the effort to only use CC and PD books. Maybe a better solution would be to use books that are about the values of FOSS, like books about Aaron Schwartz (The internet's own boy for example), Free software, etc. Just a thought.
