Hey there,

I recently moved all my local fotos to .avif, from .jpg. The decrease in file size is
impressive; quality is almost exactly the same (at lower quality one can notice
that there are a few faulty blocks, but at medium quality .avif kind of beats
.jpg hands down, say, 50% decrease in file size, give or take; it also depends
on the image - simple images compress so much better, whereas e. g. pictures
of a garden aren't quite as compressable it seems).

I also have various .png and .jpg files for gosu-related stuff. Is .avif supported?
If so I want to move to it.

Could this be added to a FAQ (or a FAQ be added), and/or added to
https://www.rubydoc.info/gems/gosu/Gosu/Image or some other
place? We seem to miss simple answers such as "supported xyz" or
so. Anyway as always feel free to proceed in any way you see fit, including
closing this issue request. Thanks for reading!

Hey hello, no, avif is not supported. Gosu uses stb_image for image I/O. If you could please open a comment to add this information / the file formats mentioned there to the Image RDoc, I will merge it. (Good idea!) Otherwise this will have to wait until I have time for larger updates again :)
