Step Generation not working after updating/modifying scenario's

When using specflow v2.4.1 or 3.0 initially after setting up the project the feature file is working as expected, I can add new scenario's and add step definitions after making a few modifications usually just adding some more scenarios over time I am no longer able to drill down into the code behind and the text color does not update when I add or modify the gherkin. This has happened to me multiple time. I have tried updating the versions and modified the custom file generator but not having any luck.
