Could you please elaborate?

I see "suet" on that list as well, and "lactic acid from whey." Several others pop out as pretty definitely animal based too. If you decide to revise the list, I have time to help.

@annalisetarhan sure the list is always open to change if you have suggestions and a trustworthy source with it, let's change it. I've listed all the sources in the README file when we created the list.

I believe the suet confusion is from VeganPeace's list, and I've messaged the site owner to inquire about her source.

Leemi's suggestions are covered on HappyCow's list, which differentiates between always animal or just sometimes. It looks like an excellent resource: https://www.happycow.net/files/ingredients-to-avoid.pdf

If you agree, I'll go ahead and incorporate the HappyCow info into the canbevegan and nonvegan json files.

@annalisetarhan sure, please do that and send a PR. And please let me know if you hear anything back from veganpeace...

Getting back to this, but I need a little guidance. When the different lists have conflicting information, should the default be nonvegan or canbevegan? My inclination is to put them on canbevegan, since it accounts for the ambiguity.

I realize making canbevegan the default contradicts my original plan to use HappyCow as the single source of truth. This is more complicated than I thought! I'm still happy to clean the list up, I just want to make sure I'm doing it the way you'd want it done.

Sure thing. I would say just suggest a PR, and we can discuss and figure it out together 😄
