I've been looking for a while for a FLOSS equivalent of bookcrossing.com and finally realized it would probably fit neatly into Inventaire. (no pressure of course, but wanted to put it out there)

I think what would be needed to make this work would be

  • A way to generate a random token (and supposedly some PDF so that people can tag their books
  • A way to claim a book with such a token: prove to the backend that you know the token, and we'll transfer it from its previous owner to you (yes it's never gonna be immune to attack from people who have had access to the physical copy but come on...)
  • A section in the page of each copy showing where it has been. There might be some user settings to create here about displaying or not when I had a book, but I guess a reasonable first stab would be "if you don't want anyone to know you had this book, just don't bookcrossing it"

Again, I realize this is a feature idea, not a request. I realize thst Inventaire is not a paid service, and I'm very happy with it as it is. 🙂

I put the tag "feature request" because we don't have a "feature idea" tag ;) This is not the first time this is suggested, so it's good that we now have a dedicated ticket about it
