This article https://www.acritelli.com/blog/kubernetes-leases/ made me wonder if it is possible to make this work.
Not expecting it to be done for me, just want to see if there is feedback/interest.

Hi, if it's useful for you, it may be useful for the others and I am happy for any PR. Just pick an existing LockProvider and copy it. The main thing, I insist on, is that all the tests from AbstractLockProviderIntegrationTest are passing in CI.

Thinking about it, it may be tricky to make the tests work in CI with K8S. If that's the case, you can always publish the LockProvider as an independent project/artifact. Or keep it for yourself.
