Since the sample material can be a property of the workspace, the associated properties in the *Absorption should be optional with a validateInputs which confirms that either the properties are present or the workspace has a material. See [http://docs.mantidproject.org/algorithms/MultipleScatteringCylinderAbsorption.html MultipleScatteringCylinderAbsorption] for an example.
This should probably be done with a mixin class.
