While Mslice loads these files perfectly well.

Try the file:

ftp://ftp.nd.rl.ac.uk/scratch/abuts/Ticket_11472/MER24226atEi12d20meV_abs.nxspe

and try to load it in Mantid using LoadNXSPE.
Algorithm fails with error:

Error in execution of algorithm Load:
Instrument: Detector with ID 209 not found. search object
