This issue was originally TRAC 8273

This comment was made as of 29th Oct 2013, based on a nightly build, using version 1 of the algorithm.

  1. Benchmark this algorithm for elastic conversion to Q3D. This MUST BE version 1 of the algorithm used for the benchmarking, otherwise we have no point of reference for making improvements. A performance test may be a good output in addition to some timing figure.

  2. Based on 1, and definitely not without doing 1. Make targeted performance improvements. This should be demonstrable via performance tests set up in 1.
