I am not familiar enough with stem plots to know if this is a non-issue or not. However, because the call signature for stem plots uses linefmt='b-', and does not provide the means to specify the line style and color separately, I don't see how I can modify this function to utilize different cycles (color, style, etc.) without a significant API breakage.

I welcome any thoughts and/or inputs on how this should be addressed.

Heck, scatter() doesn't have any color cycling mechanism. Is this something that we want to make consistent across our plotting functions?

There is a whole MEP which could be written to get awesome cycling of colors/linestyles/widths/markers etc.

I would love this. Is there any easy way to get this done currently?

Closing this as it has had no action in a year and boils down to 'we need better color cycling'.
