ax.remove() now works as expected

needs a "whats new", I think. Should probably also double-check mplot3d and axes_grid1? |

Doc added. It looks like neither the axes_grid or mplplot3d muck with the remove method so this should just work (tested mplot3d). |

ax.remove() now works as expected
If this seems small enough I have no objection to it going into 1.5.
