I was about to add an issue for your LEM comment :)
I just tested this, File menu, New Map, Ctrl+S (Save), opens dialog, I type test and hit enter, a test.map file is properly saved. This is under WinXP SP3. Works for both my latest and MFN's latest binaries. Note: The editor proposes unnamed.map as file name on the New Map call, but the win32 Save Map dialog will not show this name, it will propose no name at all, IMO, also a bug.
Note: I have set Prefs, Interface, Layout, Use win32 file load dialog!
This problem only occurs if you turn off Prefs, Interface, Layout, Use win32 file load dialog, using the "crummy" GTK save interface. The proposed unnamed file is indeed saved as unnamed and not as unnamed.map.
When saving a new map file, Radiant 1.6 does not automatically append the .map file extension. I have to manually add it myself.
