Manual service subscription provides an alternative to automatic
service discovery via TVDNS, Bonjour, and DVB-SI.

  • Users supply either a complete domain name, or the first of it and common suffixes (.com, .net, etc.) will be attempted in turn in order to find a match (in the same way that desktop browsers do)
  • DNS records for the domain include SRV records (identical to those employed by TVDNS), allowing both automatic discovery (where TVDNS has been configured and the services relate to a broadcast stream) and manual subscription for the same kinds of services
