I am using Windows 7 64 Bit with NVDA 2012.3.1 and Outlook 2010 with an exchange mailbox.
When Outlook becomes the focussed application the PC reacts very slowly. It is practically impossible to type a message etc.

Using Outlook 2010 under Windows XP (32 bit) has no such effect.

Turning off NVDA and using JAWS with outlook results in quick reaction of outlook, so outlook itself doesn't seem to produce the slugishness.

I'll attach a log file from NVDA with logging set to debug. Itr seems that there occure errors as far as I can interpreet the information.

In that logging touching Outlook is done by focussing to a opened calendar entry called "geburtstag ..."

The bug prevents me from using NVDA together with Outlook.

When another application gets the focus the System is running fine and fast again.

Watching the task manager when entering Outlook didn't show any raising of processor load etc. So I suspect that something gets wrong and NVDA has to get back on feet.

Have you tried this with the braille display off or disconnected?
If that fixes it, try a recent snapshot.

Is this related to #2953 or is Outlook 2003 fine except when typing a message?

Setting the current braille display in the settings to "no braille display" had no effect. Turning the braille display off (hardware switch) also didn't change anything. It seems that navigating in the message list is slow but it gets really slow when opening a message.

Should I try a current snapshot anyway?

No, this isn't related to #2953. Except the letter mixing problem (which really only occures in outlook 2003) the speed of NVDA is fine in Outlook 2003.

Its always a good idea to check things out in a current snap just in case its been sorted, but the last time I used a set up with that version of Outlook it seemed OK to me, so its a bit of a mystery really.Replying to heikofolkerts:

OK reproducing the problem with a snap of 20th Februar (don't know the exact version) doesn't solve it. The behaviour is the same. I'll attach the new log file with the current snap.

I found out that the problem also occures when tabbing to a list view in a QT application. So it seems to be connected with a problem when NVDA accesses the IA2 infos of a list view rather than specific to outlook. Since we can't reproduce the problem on another System with similar software it seems that the freeze is a result of a specific combination of software.

The freeze occures when NVDA makes a COM callout to the system and that is not returning. I have neither clue how to debug that nor how to work arround this.

I'll try to attach a demo application for the bug with minimal controls envolved.

Outlook does not use IA2, so this QT issue is almost certainly unrelated.

Finally I found out what was causing the problem.
I was using a tool called "advanced security for outlook" to allow a tool called catlook to access the calendar of my outlook account and the published appointments from my colleagues. Catlook is a tool to allow blind users to easily scan the calendars in outlook.

After uninstalling "advanced security for outlook" NVDA no longer gets frozen when outlook has the focus.

So the ticket should be closed but remain visible to inform other users that may face the same problem.
