the p of periods should actually be period years.

I agree that I was a bit sloppy here:

For discounting, we need the period years. (In my head, this tends to be more or less the same as periods since I'm only working with annual periods - sorry about that.)
For the investment variables, they are indexed in periods.

... So we need both and need to be precise.
