Hey @DilumAluthge @davidanthoff @mcmcgrath13,

It feels like this package could use a bit of attention...mainly judging by the fact that new users post issues / questions on a regular basis, it seems fair to assume there is an active and potentially growing user base.

I wanted to propose pulling together a few different topics into a bug fix / fundamentals cleanup scope and seeing if we can get some interest form the VegaLite.jl community in tackling these topics. This only works, clearly, with @davidanthoff's interest and sign-off, but equally necessary would be a couple of collaborators in addition to myself (@mcmcgrath13? @DilumAluthge?) to sink a chunk of time into a few blocks of work.

I would hope we could simultaneously give the package a good push forward while minimizing the burden / overload of maintaining VegaLite (and especially of a continual trickle of requests for PR merges). If ppl are interested, I'd suggest we discuss outlining a set of changes which might be most necessary and helpful for the package, @davidanthoff's guidance here would be really great.

Really rough description of possible scope:

  1. Support latest version of vega-lite
  2. Move Vega, VegaLite, etc. binaries to yggdrasil, start using NodeJS from yggdrasil
  3. Optimize and document compatibility with Pluto.jl (snappy time to second plot, etc.)
  4. Clean up issue backlog / fix longstanding issues (?)
