I'd fund it more useful if the labels could be attributes to a non-labelled data.frame (or tibble). I particularly like the practice in the sjlabelled (and sjPlot) packages, where filtering etc can use the unlabelled version but graphics and tables use the labels. Eurostat labels are very long.

That's a good point, I think it would be useful addition. But should be optional for the user.

We keep this on the list, to speed up things pull requests are also welcome.

I think it should be optional. Removing the labels from a labelled class is sometimes very painful. I think it would be far better to write a function that creates a labelled class, if somebody really likes it. For me, it is essential to have the data and the labels separately. I work in many languages, and anyway do not find the Eurostat labels very useful.
