There should be some way to walk through the items on the timeline in order. "Move to next/previous." This would be especially useful when the items are spaced out.

Agreed. This should, I imagine, open that item's information bubble on the timeline, and perhaps center the timeline on that particular item.

Curious where this would go if there were no current item selected. Which item would it choose? Maybe save the last one that was opened? On a page reload, it'd go to the first one?

We'd also probably want first/last buttons.

To break it down:

  • add storing and tracking the current item;
  • pane for the items;
  • create position buttons; and
  • handlers.
