[Sat Aug 12 08:50:41.274822 2023] [autoindex:error] [pid 33454:tid 140078730794752] [client 149.255.56.185:40536] AH01276: Cannot serve directory /var/www/xxx/html/xx/wp-includes/SimplePie/Cache/: No matching DirectoryIndex (index.html,index.cgi,index.pl,index.php,index.xhtml,index.htm) found, and server-generated directory index forbidden by Options directive

Occured if I update plugins. Sometime fatal error, 500 internal error. Maintenance mode sometimes for 2-4 minutes. No support or developing of this simplepie? I don't use rss feed

The log message does not look like it is related to 500 errors or any other issues you describe. Moreover, this does not sound related to SimplePie. Please ask on WordPress support channels.

the errors is what I see in backend and what is written to the errorlog. server-generated directory index forbidden is internal server error 500.
There is no support forum for simplepie. As far as I can tell it is not being developed further. Something is looking for files in simplepie cache folder

The error suggests something is trying to access the SimplePie source code through web server. SimplePie does not do that so your issue likely has nothing to do with SimplePie.

SimplePie continues to get developed as you can see from Activity. You can get support for issues with SimplePie in this issue tracker but in your case you are not using SimplePie – you are using WordPress, which uses SimplePie internally – so you need to go to WordPress support.

I would bet the autoindex error with SimplePie directory is not even related to the WordPress issues you are experiencing. It sounds like some bot is trying to access the directory at the same time you are having issues, probably looking for vulnerabilities. The IP address listed in your log has been reported to be a bot in the past.

thanks for your help jtojnar

thanks for the tip with the ip address. I will contact my hoster. So it's a coincidence that these errors occur when I update plugins and same time a bot is trying to get access? Sometimes nothing happens when i update. Thanks so far

Yes, it is almost certainly a coincidence.
