IANA port assignment #682
Comments
Hi @lzap thanks for the suggestion, I'll definetely take a look at this since 8125 is free. Do you have any experience with this process? I don't so I have a few questions in case you can answer them?

Thanks, that's exactly what I was after, I don't know why I couldn't find it! |
Sounds like a good suggestion. 👍 |
Hello, I don't have my own experience but honestly the original idea was by @natoscott who mentioned going through the process. Nathan, was it a smooth ride? |
Can't speak for IANA, but in SELinux policy your port will definitely be named
You can find the official list of ports at IANA site or on every Linux distribution here:
Note in this file all service names are lowercase, so I assume that IANA will ask for lowercase name at some point. Quick google also reveals that the port is in use by Apple (iTunes) and Legato backup system. That does not disqualifies your community from applying. |
Thanks for all the information here. Just wanted to drop a note to say we're working on this, we just registered a domain and got an email account to help reduce the bus factor on this application as it requires some email addresses. The next step is to submit the IANA application. I'm going to take a look at some previous examples just to make sure the information we provide is correct, and then we'll make the submission. |
Hello,
we would like to add port 8125 into SELinux, however it's not officially assigned by IANA. While this is not required for port to be added into the base SELinux port policy, I would like to ask the community to consider filing application form at https://www.iana.org/form/ports-services
The port is currently free to use and the workflow is relatively fast and easy. It can prevent from port conflicts in the future. Thanks. Cheers!
