Apols R all new to me

Quick glance of installation.
R CMD INSTALL
Gives
Error: ERROR: no packages specified
ok then
R CMD INSTALL R/syllable-package.R
Error in getOctD(x, offset, len) : invalid octal digit

Apols but what am I doing wrong?
