The Norwegian APA 7th style has some differences from the original. We have received requests asking if we can fix a specific issue - The comma after the last authors initials before the "&", signifying that the last authors is coming next.
Example:
Apa.csl as it is now:
Hansen, B. P., Aaslund, M. A., & Nygaard, S. (2021). [...]
In this example, the first authors name is written with a punctuation + comma (.,) after the last initial, signifying that the next name is a seperate entity. This is correct in Norwegian as well. However, the next author (Aaslund) also has this, even though the ampersand (&) that follow right after it already acts as a seperator between entities. In the Norwegian version of APA 7th we don't include the comma here (it is seen as superfluous), so the correct version for us would be:
Hansen, B. P., Aaslund, M. A. & Nygaard, S. (2021). [...]
It is a very minor difference, but these details are noticeable and often generates questions. We use the apa.csl style in our library systems from Ex Libris (Primo and Leganto), so a lot of students generate citations based on this. I'm not well versed in editing the code my self, and don't know where to start. Would it be possible to add some sort of exception for the Norwegian languages that would remove this extra comma from the last author before the ampersand (&)?
PS: We use language codes "nb" and "nn".
All comments appreciated!
Kind regards,
Fredrik S. Pettersen
