Web app deploying as a container app, not external git code

Over the past few days, all of my deployments (multiple instances across multiple environments) are deploying as a container app rather than an external git code based app. This can be seen on the Deployment Center blade of the app.

The problem is that this new configuration seems disconnected from the repository so I can't use a 'sync' action to update the code without removing customizations.

It doesn't look like anything has changed in the code so maybe a change in how Azure handles a specific deployment configuration? Has anyone run into this and can help?

I haven't run into this but I did find it hard to see the repository within my Azure App Service. Going to Development Tools->Advanced Tools->Go takes you to a limited kudu console with no Debug console menu and Browse Directory only give you access to Deployment Logs and Site wwwroot. I stumbled upon a "new UI" that you get to by simply typing "newui" to the end of the site like this: https://YourAzAppSvcName.scm.azurewebsites.net/newui. Go to File Manager and it takes you to the Home directory and you can go into site which has repository as well as wwwroot.

It sounds like you do have azure set up as a git repository but if not make sure you set it up this way:
az webapp deployment source config-local-git --name YourAzAppSvcName --resource-group YourResGrp
git remote add azure https://YourAzAppSvcName.scm.azurewebsites.net:443/YourAzAppSvcName.git

With that you can make a change to a file in your project, commit, then issue the following:
git push azure master

Beyond that, I was noticing that my app in wwwroot is deployed as a single compressed file (output.tar.gz). I was having startup issues which were probably just due to changes I made to be able to run localy but along the way I learned about environment variable settings in the Az app service like SCM_DO_BUILD_DURING_DEPLOYMENT and WEBSITE_RUN_FROM_PACKAGE. I also learned that under Settings->Configuration->Startup Command, which I set to:
python -m uvicorn app:app --host 0.0.0.0

Note that there is a WebApp.Dockerfile in this project, so some support of containerization is provided, maybe there is a setting that controls whether it deploys as a container?

Thanks for the detailed reply. I'm deploying through Azure Foundry to lots of environment so I'd rather avoid steps that require me to have my own fork or downloaded copy to modify first.

I've got a process to convert the app to an External Git app after deployment which works well so I have a work around.

This is interesting also because the files WebApp.Dockerfile and deployment.json that could change the deployment parameters haven't been changed in a long time.
