equivalent to zgossip

Is there any equivalent to zgossip? I'm interested in discovery of peers, where subsets of peers have a "role", so that messages can be directed from one node to others that fulfill that role, without having to configure the address of the nodes ahead of time. (I'm not too familiar with zeromq patterns yet, so maybe there's some other facility which would work for this as well).
