BattleTech Adventures: Ghosts of Obeedah introduces rules for mounting battle armor equipment on any heavier unit type, ranging from ProtoMechs to WarShips.
They have special rules for heat and ammo, but are otherwise mostly the same as they are on battle armor with regards to construction rules.
Existing equipment shouldn't be duplicated entirely, as that would introduce immense maintenance overhead and confuse MekHQ refits. Instead, I think the best approach would be making battle armor equipment available on heavier units in a similar manner to how conventional infantry equipment is available on battle armor itself.
