This needs more investigation, but I found at least one instance where a FOO-902 remote branch existed in addition to a FOO-902-zp-bar remote branch, and running pushup delete 902 while having an unrelated local branch checked out suggested to me

  1. The remote tracking branch for my currently checked out local branch
  2. FOO-902
  3. Actually, nevermind

It could not find the FOO-902-zp-bar remote branch, and that was the one I was after.
