NEW METHOD "fundamentals" card re: engaging with participants ethically #412
Comments
I'm all for it! (I think I may have authored the original issue :) ) |
Here is a draft of this method card (still in progress) |
@allisonpress thoughts about bringing this to the research guild or diversity guild - or just to the co-leads of those guilds for comment? Progress looks great btw :) |
@bpdesigns yes, good idea! @nicoleslaw and I talked about getting wider feedback on it too. I'm aligning on the direction with @MelissaBraxton first as the POC, then we'll see if that's the next step. |
Added "pair" because I could use support implementing the text once it's finalized |
Moved this to blocked until we can align on a content strategy for the fundamentals section in the method cards. Currently fundamentals content lives in two places: 1) the fundamentals page and 2) the UX Guide. I think it's a risk from a content strategy perspective to have the same content need to be updated in two places. I'd recommend linking to relevant UX Guide pages on the methods page rather than having separate cards, but that idea still needs to be tested and validated. |
For further context - the original methods wiki described the fundamentals
This is clearly no longer true (the content is formatted in cards) but speaks to the original intent, which does seem to align more with the UX guide. Work around the general content strategy is being done in #585 |

Background
Our "fundamentals" section doesn't include anything about ethics or how we engage with participants.
This issue covers creating a card length overview of ethical considerations and how to engage with communities respectfully. This might actually warrant two cards( (1) Ethics; (2) Engaging with communities ), but TBD by whoever starts to work on this. Also, depending on the bandwidth of whoever picks this up, it could be broken down into a two phases/issues: one to draft the content and a second issue to implement the content.
A great starting point is a card version of the content here: https://github.com/GSA-TTS/10x-Equity-centered-design-with-American-Indians-and-Alaska-Natives/wiki/Considerations-for-engaging-communities-with-respect
Ethic content here is also a great place to look for content that can be rolled in: https://ux-guide.18f.gov/research/ethics/
Acceptance criteria (we'll know we're done when…)
