About the project
ULIB was created as the final project for the Introduction to Unix/Linux Systems and Programming course at Modesto Junior College.
ULIB
This library management program uses a simple menu driven command-line interface to perform CRUD operations against a set of persistent text files. With this, a user can browse, add, edit, remove, checkout, and return books in a library.
Tools and technologies
ULIB was written with Bash on a Ubuntu 18 operating system. Development took place between a native Linux machine and a process virtual machine running Ubuntu.
Introspection
Completion of this project was made easier with the cumulative knowledge and experience gained from previous courses taken in the Network Administration program.
Acknowledgements
Jose Cazares
Computer Electronics courses taken with Jose Cazares provided more advanced hands-on training for students willing to put in the extra work during and after class hours. While the course learning objectives were aimed at training for the CompTIA A+ certification, Jose's additional training provided a more rigorous and extensive experience working with servers, virtual machines, networking, security, operating systems, hardware, and more. His goal was—and is—to help students prepare for additional industry standard certifications, such as the Network+, Security+, and Server+.
Dale Phillips (@phillipsd)
Professor Dale Phillips' Introduction to Programming course changed my career trajectory from an IT focus to computer science focus, but that is story for another discussion. His background in systems administration and systems programming was strongly reflected in the programming projects throughout the course. That experience proved to be invaluable during this assignment.
Nadia Isho
Professor Nadia Isho's extensive networking labs provided practical experience working with Cisco Networking Software (Cisco IOS and NX-OS), puTTY, wireshark, nmap, and Linux and Windows operating system commands. This exposed me to a wide variety of command-line interfaces that reinforced design decisions for this project.
