# How to Run Microsoft Foxpro 2.6 for Windows on XP and Later Versions

Microsoft Foxpro 2.6 for Windows is a powerful and popular database management system that was released in 1994. However, it is not compatible with Windows XP and later versions of Windows by default. If you want to run Foxpro 2.6 on your modern computer, you will need to apply a patch that fixes some compatibility issues.

## Step 1: Download the Patch

The patch for Foxpro 2.6 for Windows is available from Microsoft's website. You can find it [here](https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=13974). The file name is VFP26SP.exe and it is about 3 MB in size.

Once you have downloaded the patch, double-click on it to run it. You will see a dialog box that asks you to select a folder where the patched files will be extracted. Choose a folder that is easy to access, such as C:\Foxpro26.

## Step 2: Install the Patch

After the patch files are extracted, you will need to copy them to the folder where Foxpro 2.6 for Windows is installed. By default, this folder is C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual FoxPro 2.6.

To copy the patch files, open the folder where you extracted them (C:\Foxpro26) and select all the files. Then right-click on them and choose Copy. Next, open the folder where Foxpro 2.6 is installed and right-click on an empty space. Choose Paste to copy the patch files over the original files.

You may see a warning message that asks you if you want to replace the existing files. Choose Yes to All to confirm.

## Step 3: Configure Foxpro 2.6

Now that you have installed the patch, you will need to make some changes to the configuration of Foxpro 2.6 to make it run better on your Windows XP or later system.

First, open Foxpro 2.6 by double-clicking on its icon or shortcut. You will see a splash screen that shows the version number as 2.6a.

Next, go to the Options menu and choose Environment. You will see a dialog box that lets you adjust various settings for Foxpro 2.6.

In the Display tab, check the box that says "Use Windows Colors". This will make Foxpro 2.6 use the same color scheme as your Windows system.

Click OK to save your changes and close the dialog box.
