COMPONENTS

Get off my phone is an offline open source app that controls excessive app usage with an app blocker. It allows users to end procrastination with simple app lockdown for a chosen time. Selected mobile apps can be locked, depending on the selected time by the user as available on the app between 30 minutes and 3 hours. The desired state can also be selected if the user wishes to turn off wifi and mobile data for some time. In the menu, the "select app" feature displays all apps on the phone for the user to select which ones to lock. There is also another feature that shows the selected apps. Get off my phone shows important usage Information in the "help" section.
Be that as it may, I will like to contribute to how the app could be improved to make it more unique and my enhancement will be based on the app lock.

PROPOSALS

My proposals are as follows.

ABILITY TO SELECT AND LOCK MORE APPS WHEN SOME ARE UNDER LOCK.

With the current design, apps can only be selected once and reselected again after the intended time lock elapses. For flexibility, I believe it will be more user-friendly if the functions can be set for users to select apps to lock at their convenience. Irrespective of whether some apps have been selected, and still under lock, more should also be available for selection. This will be very okay, and I believe it would be loved by its users.

EXTEND LOCK TIME

From my experience using get off my phone, I only lock app for a maximum of 3 hours. What if at some point I intend to extend the lock time of a particular app under lock for extra hours without wanting to wait for the initial time to elapse? Then an extended lock time will help in that regard. It is the ability to prolong the lock time of an app. This idea can be initiated in such a way that when the app under lock is selected, it will be long pressed to display other options along with Extend lock time. A click on this will display the additional time for the user to choose. It will be a one time approach.

APP LOCK TIMEOUT (Enable from source)

When the app lock time elapses, the app begins to work perfectly which is a very good one, but a private security can be incorporated here. The feature will work in such a way that any time the lock time elapses, the app will still be under lock. Of course, the time is up, but it won't open yet. It will display a message, "App lock timeout, enable from the source", which will be unlocked in the app (get off my phone). A long press on the app will display " unlucky app" in the options which can be toggled to unlock the locked app. It seems technical but achievable. It will go a long way to make the app exceptional.

BENEFITS

The ability to select the app more than once will be of great benefit. Users will be able to lock any app at any time without waiting for the first initiated lock time to elapse. Any act of forgetfulness can be tackled with this feature. the different time interval of app lock will save lots of users. If they feel that some apps were left out of lock in the first place, they can still go ahead and lock at any time.

The extended lock time will also be a good feature to be implemented. The user might wish to extend the app lock time before timeout to make sure that they don't have access to the app at some point. An addicted user of some apps can really explain that. Just like me, I love playing CHESS, especially with an opponent online and it takes a lot of my time. Still, that doesn't make me stop playing it. The extended time will help to regulate the visiting time which will make users be glad using get off my phone.

The app lock timeout will serve as a means of protecting some apps that users don't want others to access. Through that awesome techniques, apps can be isolated. Anyone that comes across "app lock timeout, unlock from the source" will not understand how to go about viewing the app except he or she uses the same app(get off my phone). This will prevent some friends from getting in contact with some private things on the phone.

Anyone can always use that as a security part for securing some apps. This is indirectly a two in one benefit which is super cool.

Thanks.

@cckole Thank you so much for taking your time writing this in detail. This isn't the first time

ABILITY TO SELECT AND LOCK MORE APPS WHEN SOME ARE UNDER LOCK.

Has been mentioned, so i will definitely add it!

as for

EXTEND LOCK TIME

I never thought of this, i will look into it! This will be a very good feature if implemented.

In regards of

APP LOCK TIMEOUT (Enable from source)

I'm not sure if this should be added, i mean, YES, the user who uses this app is trying to set limits to his/her procrastination - however, making the app need extra click just to unlock might be ineffective in some way for users who do not like extra unneeded measurements, if you get my point.

Thank you again for this detailed issue! I will work on it as soon as i get back to the project - as i've set it to halt mode duo to life reasons (New job, University etc.. ) but i will be very soon!

NOTE: Currently the lock/unlock mechanism works, however, there's a serious bug that's preventing me on adding new features before i try and fix it ( or get someone's help to fix it with me ). If i fix it right away, i will start implementing all user requested features one by one! Please be patient with me.

Good Day!
