TL;DR
Install watchman brew install watchman

There seems to be an issue where running npm run test:watch throws an error event

(FSEvents.framework) FSEventStreamStart: register_with_server: ERROR: f2d_register_rpc() => (null)
throw er; // Unhandled 'error' event

There is a discussion here on the Jest repository jestjs/jest#1767
