Checklist

  • I will only create one feature request per issue.
  • I have used the search function to see if someone else has already submitted the same feature request.
  • I will describe the problem with as much detail as possible.

EDIT: I wrote this feature request before Tags where implemented at all.

Feature description

Problem I'm having:
I like to listen to radio news via Antenna Pod. The radio news outlets release news every one to half an hour. This makes the episodes screen completely unusable, since it is jammed with radio news. In thinking about this I first thought about excluding feeds from the episode screen, but something more elegant came to my mind.

Feature I want
The possibility to create lists, to which you can add podcast feeds. When you tap on any particular list you would only see the episodes of feeds you added to that list (like as selective episodes screen). This would also allow me to sort my feeds by topic, mood, etc. which I would also love.

Suggested solution:
The lists could be shown in the sidebar, like the individual feeds and the other screens this would fit neatly into the antenna pod UI. For users who won't make use of the feature, the only change to the UI would be an "Add List" Button above the "Add Podcast" button, so the UI wouldn't get less intuitive.
When you add a List, there would be another spacer in the sidebar (like the one between the Antenna Pod screens and the individual feeds) between the antenna pod screens and the feeds your lists would appear. When you tap any list you would have a plus icon in the upper right screen corner to add feeds to that list.

With #4634 (which lands in AntennaPod 2.3, which is currently being rolled out to Beta users on Google Play), it is possible to add tags to Podcasts. This effectively makes it possible to create what you call 'feed lists' 🙂
You can (will be able to) add tags to a podcast via the podcast's Settings screen.
What's not possible yet, is to 'view' the list of podcasts per tag in a full screen. Could you live without that, @blauertee (I wasn't sure if you were asking for this).

Uhhh thanks to @ByteHamster that looks awesome!
So yeah 90% of what I wanted is implemented now 🎉
But my original problem was that the default episodes Screen became unusable. So can you tap on a tag/folder and then see all the new episodes from all of the podcasts in that tag/folder? that's what would solve my problem.
(cant test know, just made my good phone scatter and bricked my spare one ._. )

Thanks for confirming that :)

I will take your request on board when making mock-ups for the Episodes quick-filters (part of #5192).

Could be down like in some mockup, display the tags above the episodes list (or hide if none selected, then could be nitally set from overflow menu maybe?)

So can you tap on a tag/folder and then see all the new episodes from all of the podcasts in that tag/folder? that's what would solve my problem.

I was actually thinking of creating this feature request myself :) Just separate inboxes for each tag, plus the regular inbox with everything – or, if one chooses, everything except the ones in tags.

The good thing about this is that some (most) feeds you want to listen to the latest episode first, while others (audiobooks or limited run podcast where all episodes has been released) you want to listen to the first episode first. So you can have your regular inbox sorted one way and your audiobooks inbox sorted the opposite way.

Are there any plans on implementing this feature?

I often would like to hear a specific podcast genre (tags = genre) but I have to open every podcast within a tag to look for new episodes. It would help alot if i could simply tap a tag to see all episodes within it. Even a filter in the episodes view would solve this "problem".

Plans? Yes. But they're not very concrete yet :-)

This issue has been mentioned on AntennaPod Forum. There might be relevant details there:

Any news here?

Maybe the 'delete-all-episodes-with-same-tag-from-inbox' approach is easier to implement? Is just an additional menu entry in the long tap menu of a tag? But unfortunately, I'm not a programmer.

Hi @Improver2000

Any news here?

No, otherwise you would have seen it here.

Locking as needs and interest are clear, and to avoid unnecessary notifications. Unfortunately this also means giving thumbs-up is no longer possible (request to GitHub to correct this, everyone is encouraged to upvote it).
